Galvan Industries is protecting Dominion Virginia Power’s $1.1 billion investment in a new combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power station in Brunswick County, Va. More than 1000 tons of structural steel has been hot dip galvanized by Galvan, protecting it from rust and corrosion for decades with little or no required maintenance. The new plant is scheduled to on line by the summer of 2016.

The Brunswick County Power Station is being built on a 205-acre site on U.S. Route 58 east of Lawrenceville, Va. It is the largest economic development project in the history of Brunswick county. Dave Steel Company of Asheville, NC is the steel fabricator for the project.

“The Brunswick County site offers us an ideal location to generate electricity to serve Southside Virginia and Hampton Roads reliably and will help us close the gap of 4,000 megawatts in peak demand that our customers are expected to need within the next decade,” said Tom Farrell, Dominion chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Dominion is one of the nation’s largest producers and transporters of energy, with a portfolio of approximately 28,000 megawatts of generation, 11,000 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline and 6,300 miles of electric transmission lines. Dominion operates the nation’s largest natural gas storage system with 947 billion cubic feet of storage capacity and serves retail energy customers in 15 states.
