Hot Dip Galvanized Counterweights Support Railroad Crossing Gates Through All Their Ups And Downs
One of Galvan’s OEM customers provides counterweights for crossing and exit gate arms to ensure proper balance in all arm positions, and to minimize loads on gate operating mechanisms.
Each of the counterweights shown here weighs about 36 lbs. Multiple counterweights are used on each gate depending on its length, with longer gates requiring more weight. Some gates need up to 16 counterweights (576 lbs) to operate properly.
Rust proofing is critical since the counterweights are always exposed to weather, dirt and debris. Unprotected, they could rust together making repair or maintenance extremely difficult.
At Galvan, we are happy to do our part to keep railroad crossings safe and the trains running on time.
