Work to replace a decades old bridge has begun in Greenville, NC with Galvan Industries playing a major role in extending the expected life of the new structure.

The current bridge on U.S. 13 (Memorial Boulevard), was built in 1955. It will be replaced with a taller and longer bridge. The $11.1 million project also includes contractors installing a new waterline and improving drainage in the area.

The steel supplier for the project chose Galvan Industries to provide NCDOT-approved hot-dip galvanizing to rust-proof the pipe piles for the new bridge. Even when driven deep in the ground and exposed to constant moisture, these galvanized steel piles can be expected provide maintenance-free support to the new bridge for 70 years or more.

Steel that has been hot-dip galvanized by Galvan Industries is guaranteed to meet ASTM-A123 specifications. Galvan is also NCDOT approved for fabrication and welding.

The new bridge is slated to open to drivers in fall 2025. Average daily traffic on the bridge, currently about 13,000 vehicles per day, is expected to double by 2040.
