Galvanized steel, hot-dipped by Galvan Industries, is being put into place at BMW’s new EV battery assembly plant in Woodruff, S.C., as construction moves forward on the expansive $700 million facility.
Hot-dip galvanized steel is specified in the construction of modern manufacturing plants to reduce maintenance downtime and lower costs. HDG steel provides a lifetime of worry-free, maintenance-free service, especially in in outdoor applications exposed to the natural elements.
Galvan’s long history of guaranteed quality and superior customer service on large jobs made it a perfect fit for this major landmark project.
Known as Plant Woodruff, the new plant is expected to open in 2026 and will produce batteries to power electric vehicles. BMW plans to build at least six fully electric vehicle models at Plant Spartanburg by 2030. BMW currently employs 11,000 at Plant Spartanburg and produces more than 400,000 vehicles per year.
The more than one million-square-foot battery factory is being built on 315 acres of land along Highway 101 just northwest of downtown Woodruff. More than 300 people are expected to be employed at there. The completed facility will also include a technology building, a fire department, a cafeteria, and an energy center.
